Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya
Senior sculptor, Mr. Basavaraj from Mysore, has completed his Master's degree in Shilpakala. He is working for 15 years on the artworks. Junior Sculptor named Mr. Gururaj from Shimoga has completed his six-year course and internship from KPJ Prabhu Kalakruthi Sarbethiya Samasthe. They are working on six feet hard stone on a contemporary and traditional theme to sculpt the statue of Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya.
Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya, the mystic saint, is a musician of the 15th century. He is the earliest known composer of South India to compose songs called “sankirtanas” in praise of Lord Venkateswara. Annamcharya is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Venkateswara’s sword. Annamacharya is said to have composed as many as 32,000 Sankeertanas on the god Venkateswara, of which only about 12,000 are available today. Annamacharya devotes his compositions as floral offerings to Venkateswara. Through his poems, he praises the deity, describes his love for him, argues and quarrels with the Lord, confesses the devotee’s failures, and surrenders himself to Venkateswara.
