Gautama Buddha, a sage on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Gautama is the primary figure in Buddhism. Along with Buddha’s title, he is also known as Siddhartha Gautama, Shakyamuni Buddha, or simply the Buddha. Buddhists recognized him as an enlightened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end rebirth and suffering. In the middle of the sixth and fourth centuries, BC Buddha was lived and taught mostly in the eastern part of ancient India, such as Magadha and Kosala. Buddhism is a philosophy of life explained by Gautama Buddha. Buddhism is often referred to as reincarnation, which is when people are reborn after dying. Mostly all individuals go through many cycles of birth, living, death, and rebirth. A practicing Buddhist distinguishes between the concepts of rebirth and reincarnation.
