Puppets vary in size from 2.5 – 4 feet tall and are very flexible in movement due to the use of fabric material in the making of these puppets. Different variations of puppet can be seen with yakshagana puppet and few of them are:
 

• Stree Vesha (female role) – Generally shown wearing a saree, which are traditionally worn by the women of Karnataka, colorful beads and light wood strips are used for the ornamentation on body as well as hair.

• Purusha Vesha (Male role resembling Arjuna) male character caring bow and arrow , wearing traditionally handloom cloth and headgear.

• Krishna Vesha male character resembling lord Krishna.

• Bannada Vesha (demon-villain) this character displays negative role, with large and thick eye brows, aggressive eyes and protruding canine teeth.

• Kireeta Vesha (king) male character wearing crown.

• Hasya Vesha (comdedian or servant) male character with just handloom cloth and no jewelry or crown but with a conical shaped cap.

• Muni Vesha (sage) male puppet wearing orange color dress with long beard and whiskers, holding rudraksha mala and stick in other.
