Banjara also known as Lambani is one of the people from the Gypsy community. Embroidery is an essential part of the traditional costumes of the nomadic Banjara community. Lambani women make symmetrical embroidery by lifting the warp thread of the fabric with a fine needle and making triangles, and diamonds, parallel to the weft thread, giving the effect of an extra weft weave. They specialize in making borders of long skirts, that are part of their traditional costume. They use colorful threads, beads, shells, and mirrors to embellish an article. Mirrors are used widely in Banjara Embroidery. To meet the current trend these people started making creative articles such as mirror key chain.

People of the Lambadi community along with other communities who lived around the dam of Almatti had to shift their dwelling places along with all their belongings, agricultural fields and all related to them which left them once upon a time jobless at hand. The traditional art of embroidery was one of their craft that supported the people in this area for survival.

Mirrors are versatile and are used in our everyday life. Mirror key chain making was inspired by the mirror work of the Lambani/ Banjara community. Some of these people presently do not wear traditional dresses regularly but mostly during occasions. As mirror work on their dresses reflected and brought a glitter effect to their dress material, hence they are specially made for their daughters for their wedding. They have adopted the same technique in another manner like making key chains of various sizes and shapes. Key chains are generally small chains made from plastic, or metal that attach a small item to the key ring. The different coloured pattern key chains helps an individual in recognizing different keys used within a house or organization.
