Making Process
The artist will choose the kind of coconut required. It should be big and dry. A thin layer of the outer skin of the coconut is removed layer after layer slowly. Once the outer layer is removed, based on the model being sculpted, the fibers are removed at appropriate places. Artist uses various kinds of knives to the carving purposes. The cracks encountered during sculpting are filled using the removed skin of coconut. Finally the facial features of the models are sculpted and other details are added to the sculpture. Black beads are used in places for the eyes of the model. The Idol prepared lasts for 13-15yrs without any distortion.
