The Art of Celebrating Ganpati

Ganpati idols (usually small in size) settled in homes are only ones immersed in water (visarjit) on this day.
People from all age groups, castes or sections of societies come here for the procession.
A traditional ceremony is carried out before the visarjan of the idol into the water body.
Some designated workers carry out the job of immersing the Ganpati idol into the water body. This whole process takes place under the supervision of the police.
The same workers are instructed by the people to bring back some of the offerings that were immersed with the idol.
This process of Visarjan is not bound by time or circumstances as it takes place till late in the evening and even in heavy rains and the same process (Prakriya) continues every third day till the final day at different water bodies, like sea.
