Following are the tools and raw materials required for Cotton Weaving of Payyanur.

  1. Boiler: It is used to boil the yarn for about 24 hours.
  2. Dyeing Tanks: Various colours are mixed in required quantity and poured to tank for colouring.
  3. Creels: It is used to place the bobbins for the warping purpose.
  4. Warping Paddles (Wooden bat shape): It is used to insert the coloured yarns as per the patterns to be made.
  5. Warping Frames: Frames are generally used in these areas for the warping purpose.
  6. Charaka Equipment: It is generally used to wind the yarns on pirns.
  7. Starch: It is applied on the surface of the yarn for strength purpose.
  8. Pirns: It is used to wind the weft yarns for weaving.
  9. Frame looms: It is generally preferred for weaving in the Payyanur, Kannur regions of Kerala.
  10. Cotton Yarns: It is specially used for the making of the cotton materials of Payyanur.
  11. Long Sticks: It is specially used for drying of the boiled, colored yarns.
