Special Effects:
Once you gain enough confidence in watercolor painting you can try using advanced techniques to add special effects. Rock salt, toothbrush splatter, crumbled tissue paper, rubber stamps, sponge, bleach are some household materials, which can be used creatively to achieve different textures.

Lighting:
Lighting is the most important factor in Watercolor painting as it is necessary to have well lit subject of drawing as well as drawing surface. If possible make use of natural light in the daytime but in the nighttime, the light source should be white.
